William Norris


Able Seaman William Norris, 221916, was killed when the destroyer
H.M.S."Shark", under the captaincy of Commander Loftus W. Jones,
was sunk at the Battle of Jutland, on Wednesday 31st May 1916.
86 men aboard the "Shark" were killed, with a further 3 being injured .

He was one of five men with the
name Norris to be killed in the great sea battle.
Two men with the name Norrish were also killed.

The name of William Norris can be found on panel 13 of the
Portsmouth Naval Memorial which is situated on Southsea Common
overlooking the promenade.
