Leading Seaman Phillip John Norrish, the son of
John and Caroline Norrish of 32, Harris Street, Tenby, Pembrokeshire,
was killed when the
Armoured Cruiser H.M.S."Defence" was blown up at
the Battle of Jutland, on May 31st 1916,
with the loss of 903 lives.
H.M.S."Defence" was under the captaincy of Stanley V Ellis,
flying the flag of Rear Admiral Sir Robert Arbuthnot.
The name of Phillip John Norrish can be found on panel 11 of the
Plymouth Memorial which is situated centrally on The Hoe
overlooking Plymouth Sound.
He was one of two men with the
name Norrish to be killed in the great sea battle.
Five men with the name Norris were also killed.
