Gunner Frederick William Norris, 905118, of 336 Battery,
135 (The Hertfordshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery,
died on Monday 25th March 1946, aged 24.
His death was recorded in the local newspapers.
Ex-Gunner's Death
Six comrades and fellow ex-prisoners bore the coffin at
the funeral yesterday (Monday) of gunner Frederick William Norris,
the 24 years old son of Mr and Mrs J.R.Norris of 22 Fulham Road,
who died in Colchester Military Hospital on Monday last.
Gunner Norris, who had been in the army about seven years, was
taken prisoner at Singapore, and his long captivity
undoubtedly undermined his health.
He was previously employed as an assistant with
Foote and Son, of Cowgate.
A service was held at St John's Church, and the mourners were:
Mr and Mrs J.R.Norris (father and mother);
Driver J.W.Norris, R.E. (brother);
Mr and Mrs A Gittins (brother-in-law and sister);
Miss Ruby Norris and Miss Flora Norris (sisters);
Mrs D Healy, Mrs R Beech, Mrs A Stead, (aunts);
Mrs S.A.Dickens (great aunt);
Mr D.Healey (cousin).
In addition to the lovely family wreaths were those from
members of the Royal Artillery, and his old comrades.
DEATH OF MR.F.W.NORRIS.
The death occurred at Colchester Military Hospital on Monday of
Frederick William Norris, son of Mr and Mrs J.R.Norris, 22 Fulham
Road. Mr Norris, who was 24 was demobilised in February after
having served with the Peterborough Battery T.A. at Singapore,
where he was captured. He was taken suddenly ill with a recurrence
of a complaint contracted while he was a prisoner of the Japanese,
and was sent to the military hospital.
Before the war he was with Mrs Foote, fishmonger.
The funeral is on Monday at St John's.
Frederick William Norris is buried at Peterborough (Eastfield Cemetery)
