Ernest Leonard Norris

Able Seaman Ernest Leonard Norris, J/6172, was the son of
Hannah Norris, of "Hazelhurst", 24, Uckender Road, Alton, Hampshire.
He was a crew member on the Armoured Cruiser H.M.S."Black Prince",
under the captaincy of Thomas P Bonham, when she was blown up at the
Battle of Jutland on May 31st 1916, with the loss of 1026 lives.

He was one of five men with the
name Norris to be killed in the great sea battle.
Two men with the name Norrish were also killed.

The name of Ernest Leonard Norris can be found on panel 13 of the
Portsmouth Naval Memorial which is situated on Southsea Common
overlooking the promenade.
